THOUGHTS FOR Q2 2010
I am admittedly not a great fan of football. Watching the Super Bowl with friends is about
as close as I come to the enjoying the sport. But, from the sport of football have come some people who have some
great wisdom. One such person is Vince
Lombardi. As head coach of the Green Bay
Packers from 1959 to 1967 and the Washington Redskins in 1969, he is reputed to
be one of the most successful coaches in the history of American football. In one of his most famous locker room
speeches, it has been reported that he walked into the locker room, lifted a football high into the air and said,
“Gentlemen, this is a football.” He was
illustrating that it was a time in the team’s history to get back to basics.
Fellow CRS’s, it is now that time in real estate history for
us to get back to basics as well. It is
a time for us to revisit some of the things that were successful in the past,
became obsolete or un-doable for awhile and are suddenly new again. One example is the FHA mortgage that for
years here in SoCal seemed to have gone the way of the buggy whip. Today, it’s been revitalized with the high
affordability factor caused by the mortgage meltdown and subsequent drop in
market prices. The 203k FHA program
offers opportunity for us to help salvage the properties that have been ravaged
by those who have fallen behind in their loans, failed to make necessary
repairs or recklessly pillaged the properties before leaving them.
Here at Southern California Chapter of CRS we are striving
to assist our members by bringing you cutting edge information you can use in
your business now. Our goal is not to
help our members just to survive but to prosper. We continue to offer CRS Core classes as well
as REO and Short Sale Workshops. The
workshops are an opportunity for you to roll up your sleeves and learn from in
the trenches brokers C.J. Johnson and Sherman Smith who are successfully
working in these areas of our business.
It is a time for us to sharpen our skills, reinvent
ourselves and grow our businesses. A
great Vince Lombardi quote that comes to mind here is “The only place success
comes before work is in the dictionary. “ There is little doubt that we are all working harder now to maintain the
same level of success we had in years past. For those of us who are willing to invest in ourselves we will not only
rise to new heights, but we will be assisting in repairing what has been broken
by the mortgage debacle. It is true now
more than ever that” a rising tide raises all boats”. We, a real estate professionals possess the
opportunity given the right tools to help repair the ravaged real estate market
and to stabilize the values in the neighborhoods where we live and work.
In conclusion, my personal thanks go out to our tireless
Board of Directors who work to schedule events, classes, workshops and
leadership meeting opportunities for our Chapter (please visit our frequently
updated website at www.SoCalCRS.com for
times, dates and locations). As the 2010
Southern California CRS Chapter President, my face may be the face that you
associate with our Chapter’s Leadership, but I can assure you it is the great
leaders whose names appear on our Board of Director’s list and our Chapter
Administrator, Kari Casarietti that ultimately make it all happen. To borrow another quote from Mr. Lombardi, “The
achievements of an organization are the results of the combined effort of each
individual.” That is absolutely the case
with our Chapter and it my great honor to work alongside these exemplary and
dedicated CRS’s.
We are constantly striving to bring you the best in
educational, networking and cutting edge skills available in the real estate
industry today. If you have suggestions
